I am a PhD student in the Human Computer Integration Lab at the University of Chicago, advised by Prof. Pedro Lopes. I received my B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and my M.S. in Intelligent Robotics from the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology.
Prior to my PhD, my work in technical HCI focused on engineering multimodal VR systems for dynamic physical environments, resulting in multiple first-authored and co-authored publications at major HCI venues (CHI, UIST). At the University of Chicago, I am expanding this work by investigating how computational systems can more deeply engage the human body, with the broader goal of rethinking how we physically interact with computational information.
My research investigates future physical interfaces that leverage perceptual augmentation and manipulation in wearable and integrated interactive systems. In particular, I explore how actuated interfaces can decouple physical forces from perceived sensations, enabling experiences in which what users feel is not constrained by the forces physically produced by a device.
