At a reception in the historic Eckhart Hall Tea Room Thursday, the Department of Computer Science recognized student teaching assistants, scholarship recipients, and staff anniversaries. 

Teaching assistant awards were given to PhD students Fernando Granha Jeronimo and Aritra Sen and undergraduates Claude Richoux and Kevin Zhao. Joan Wang, a student in the Master of Science in Computational Analysis & Public Policy program co-administered by CS and the Harris School, was acknowledged for her selection as one of three UChicago Siebel Scholars from computer science. 

The event also celebrated the anniversaries of long-time departmental staff, who each received UChicago service pins:

  • Nita Yack, Department Administrator, 30 years
  • Sandra Wallace, Secretary to the Chairman, 25 years
  • Robert Bartlett, Director of Techstaff, 20 years
  • Karin Czaplewski, Student Support Representative, 20 years
  • Molly Stoner, Director of Admissions and Student Affairs for MPCS, 15 years
  • Josh Blackwood, Student Affairs Representative, 5 years
